[Class 44] A flush handle for the outside of vehicle doors is moved into its recess when the latch is retracted either by the inside handle or by slamming the door. The handle 15, Fig. 2, is mounted on a plate 10 having a lug 25 engaging the door frame and carries a latch bolt 16 to secure the handle within its recess, the bolt being released by a lever 18 actuated by a push-button 19 which may carry a barrel lock 22. The handle has an integral or pivoted lug 14 engaging an open semicircular recess or a closed circular aperture 45a, Fig. 22, in a U-shaped cam 41 pivoted to the lock casing. This cam has a flange 46 to actuate the main latch 28, Fig. 10, which is also actuated through pins 29, 30, link 31, rod 33 and crank 35 by the inside handle 34. The latch 28 carries a lug 47 engaging the part 48a of a heart-shaped aperture 49 in the cam 41 so that when the latch is retracted, the aperture 45a is moved outwards and returns the outside handle to its recess. If, however, the handle has been moved out far enough to operate the latch, cam 41 will be swung up and lug 47 will engage part 52 of the aperture 49, so that the cam aperture 45a will swing inwards and move the handle still further out. Handle 15 can be held locked by an opposite movement of handle 34 which brings notch 37 under spring 39 and also urges a finger 60 on link 31 into engagement with a pin 61 on cam 41. If the door is open when handle 34 is so moved, slamming the door will cause pin 30 to move and release link 31 and handle 34. |
