[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 12, 1936.] [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] A porcelain &c. tube a for vertical location in a filter-bed is provided with staggered longitudinally - disposed admission slots d, the cross-sectional area of each of which increases in an inward direction from the outer to the inner surface of the tube, and is formed on its periphery with annular ribs b which are provided with corresponding slots of less width than the said admission slots. The ribs b may be provided with transverse notches g communicating with the adjacent grooves c, and preferably both the upper and lower ends f of the slots ascend obliquely inwards. The ends of two such pipes are jointed by clips i which are secured to the pipe ends by cement &c. k and are drawn together by bolts l to compress a rubber &c. ring h interposed between the pipes. |
