[Class 7 (v)] In a starting device comprising a valve 4 opened by pressure of the starting-air admitted at 25, when allowed to do so by a plunger 8 actuated by cam mechanism 10, 14, 16, 40 as described in the parent Specification, the valve-closing spring 29 acts on a washer 33 inserted under a head 28 on the valve stem. The starting-air first raises the plunger 8 so as to move the tappet 40 downwards into contact with the cam 16, compressing a weak spring 41. The valve 4 is then opened by the air pressure only as the plunger 8 is depressed by the cam mechanism, so as to move projections 7 on the plunger downwards from engagement with the waher 33. The washer is inserted over a squared part 19 of the valve stem by means of a radial slot 34, Fig. 3, in the washer, which is further provided with grooves 35 which, together with the slot 34, allow the plunger 8, with four projections 7, to be pushed across the washer. The plunger is then rotated through 45 degrees to bring the projections 7 under the parts 33a of the washer between the grooves 35. Rotation of the plunger is then prevented by engagement of lugs 36 at its upper end with the rocker 10, and rotation of the valve is prevented by a set screw 37 engaging a recess 38 in a collar 5. |
