A damping apparatus for a washing machine according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a suspension cap confined with an outer tub of the washing machine; a lower spring accommodated in the suspension cap; a suspension shaft extended by penetrating the suspension cap; a snubber base which supports the lower spring by being combined to a lower part of the suspension shaft, and has a circumferential part rubbing against an inner side of the suspension cap when the suspension cap moves; an upper pivot which is penetrated by the suspension shaft, and is mounted to be rotated since a corresponding curve bordering a curve of a pivot hanger fixed to a main body of the washing machine is formed; an upper spring which is comprised at an upper side of the upper pivot, and makes the upper pivot adhere to the pivot hanger; and a spring bracket which is fixed to the pivot hanger, and confines the upper spring. The damping apparatus for the washing machine improves vibration reduction ability by increasing friction during rotation of the upper pivot.
