PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a carbon fiber bundle which has excellent mechanical characteristics and provides high-quality and high-performance fiber-reinforced resin especially for aircraft and industrial applications and a carbon fiber bundle.SOLUTION: A carbon fiber bundle consists of a single fiber of carbon fiber which includes several surface irregular structures extending in the longitudinal direction of the fiber by 2 μm or longer on the surface of the single fiber and has a difference (Rp-v) between the highest part and the lowest part of the surface of the single fiber of 15-50 nm, an average irregularity degree Ra of 2-6 nm and a ratio of the major diameter to the minor diameter of the cross section of the single fiber, major diameter/minor diameter, of 1.015-1.10. The carbon fiber bundle has a strand strength of 5,700 MPa or higher and a strand elastic modulus of 245-280 GPa, measured by the ASTM method, and a knot strength of 700 N/mmor higher. |
