A wind turbine comprises a rotating bladed wheel that is centrally positioned within a housing that has inlets that take the form of a plurality of tapering funnels that direct the air flow from the wind onto the blades of the wheel; the tapering funnels increases the force of the wind power as it flows from the wider funnel inlet area positioned to the outside of the housing, to the much smaller outlet positioned inside the housing which directs the concentrated air flow onto the blades of the wheel. Preferably the funnel forms a tapering conical, and a set of funnels may be placed in series or parallel to each other, and in any position thereby allowing the wind turbine to be more effective when the wind direction changes or when the wind is swirling. The bladed wheel may be positioned either vertically on a mast or horizontally and moves a rotor shaft that powers a generator e.g. a turbine. The housing prevents the bladed wheel from being influenced from other wind sources, and has ventilation outlets to allow the release of incoming air. Preferably the bladed wheel and funnels are made from plastic. |
