The invention relates to an apparatus 1 for mounting a flexible plate onto a print sleeve or cylinder. The apparatus comprises a manipulator unit 5 located below the print sleeve 3 or cylinder 2 and a support member 6 provided on the manipulator unit. The support member has a curved profile for arching the flexible plate (10, Fig.6C) prior to its mounting onto the print sleeve or cylinder. The apparatus can also have two manipulator units each provided with a support member. Each support member may be resilient and have one or more apertures 7. Each manipulator may comprise vacuum means (13, Fig.2A) for temporarily securing the flexible plate to the surface of the support member. Each manipulator unit may comprise a camera (14, Fig.2A) oriented upwards for viewing registration marks on the flexible plate. Each manipulator unit may include a motor for moving the unit in an axial and radial direction. Each manipulator unit may be independently controllable. There is also provided a method of mounting a flexible plate which includes aligning the arched flexible plate with the print sleeve or cylinder prior to mounting the plate. |
