[Class 79 (v)] Mechanism for controlling the brakes and the carburetter of a motor vehicle comprises a brake actuating lever having a foot plate, and a lever pivoted intermediate its ends to the vehicle floor beneath the brake lever, the pivoted lever having a heel rest at one end and being operatively connected at the other end with the carburetter, and a spring for normally holding the pivoted lever in an intermediate position when subjected to the weight of the brake actuating foot of the driver on the heel rest. As shown in Fig. 1 the lever 3 pivoted in a bracket 1 on the floor board 2 is connected at one end by a rod 5 to the carburetter of the vehicle engine so that upward movement of the rod opens the throttle and also at this end of the lever is arranged the adjustable spring 11 of sufficient strength to support the driver's foot. At the other end of the lever 3 are rollers 7 arranged in a V to accommodate the heel of the driver's foot and a lug 8 which is adapted to engage a button 9 of a starter switch 10 on pivotal movement of the lever. The brake actuating lever 12 carries the foot plate 13 which is forked at the lower end to fit over the lever 3. The arrangement is such that as the brake is applied by forward movement of the foot, the spring 11 takes over control of the lever 3 to reduce the throttle opening. In a modified structure shown in Fig. 4, a plate 26 secured to the brake lever 25 has slidably mounted thereon the foot plate 29 having down-turned guiding flanges 30. The plate 26 has a recess 28 serving as a stop for the sliding movement of the foot plate 29, the recess 28 being engageable by a bracket 31 carrying a roller 33. The roller 33 having guiding flanges engages a cam surface 35 of the throttle lever 17 having the heel rest 20. When the brakes are applied by movement of the lever 25 the foot plate slides upwardly and the roller 33 engaging the upper part of the cam surface 35 depresses the front end of the lever 17 to reduce the fuel supplied to the engine.</p>
