The optical data carrier (D) includes a light reflecting film (EF) that is arranged on a transparent film (TF). A graphic pattern (M) and a machine readable font are printed on the transparent film. The light reflecting film is made of a plastic material and is provided with several reflective elements (RE). A transparent protective layer (S) is provided on the printed transparent film. The reflective elements are spherical, semi-spherical or prismatic shaped and are made of glass or transparent plastic. The transparent protective layer is made of plastic film or glass. An independent claim is included for arrangement for recognizing workpiece or workpiece carrier in industrial automation device.
