A method for operating one or more environmental control systems of a motor vehicle 2 is provided, relating to the sleep-need, drowsiness or wakefulness of an occupant. The method comprises determining a position of an occupant of the vehicle in their circadian cycle and controlling the operation of one or more of the environmental control systems to compensate for or adjust the position of the occupant in their circadian cycle. The position may be determined based on a core body temperature, a heart rate or activity of the occupant, or based on calendar information relating to planned appointments by the occupant. This may also include determining time zone differences and associated jet-lag. The environmental control system may be an interior lighting system 8, a climate control system 12, a media or entertainment system 10, or an air quality system 14. |
