Provided is a stator for a rotary electric machine, in which a joining section of end sections of a coil segment is formed at a coil end of the stator so as not to expand toward the opposite side from the stator core, making it possible to make the coil end compact in the axial direction. The stator for the rotary electric machine is configured so that: the stator is equipped with a stator core 10 that has a plurality of slots, and a coil segment 30 that is disposed at the stator core and forms a stator winding 3; the end sections of the coil segment overlap in the axial direction and are joined via the joining section; and the joining section is formed in a melted-down shape from an end section 6a of the coil segment on the opposite side from the stator core toward an end section 5a of the coil segment on the stator core side.
