826,024. Separators for galvanic dry cells. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. April 4, 1956 [April 18, 1955], No. 10249/56. Class 96. [Also in Group XXXVI] A separator for a primary galvanic dry cell comprises a bibulous anode-contacting film, of the kind described in Specification 603,927, [Group XXXVI], applied to a relatively smooth, ionically permeable, high-density, super-calendered supporting sheet of paper containing between 60 and 100, e.g. 80%, by weight, of mechanically defibrillated cellulosic fibres, e.g. kraft, alpha cellulose or rag fibres, and between 0 and 40%, e.g. 20%, of an alkaline-soluble, partially water-soluble cellulose ether, e.g. methyl-, hydroxyethyl- or carboxymethylcellulose. Methyl-cellulose ethers having methoxy contents ranging between 12 and 29% by weight are suitable. The supporting paper may have a density between 0.6 and 1.4 g. per c.c. and an air-permeability between 5 and 1,000 seconds, Gurley. |
