PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 3-hydroxypropionic acid and other products.SOLUTION: This invention relates to metabolically engineered microorganism strains, such as bacterial strains, in which there is an increased utilization of malonyl-CoA for production of a chemical product which includes 3-hydroxypropionic acid. In a specific embodiment, a cell culture comprises an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase or the microorganism is genetically modified for reduced enzymatic activity in a fatty acid synthase pathway of the microorganism. The inhibitor of fatty acid synthase is selected from a group consisting of thiolactomycin, triclosan, cerulenin, thienodiazaborine, isoniazid and analogs thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
