Provided is an image display device with which an image is displayed in a space as if the image were floating. This image display device has a light beam generation means with which each of multiple light beams is made to intersect with another light beam one or more times within a desired range, and a light beam control/driving means that controls/drives the direction, the intensity, the wavelength, and the emission period for the light beams, by using an intersection point map and light reproduction information for each intersection point. In the case of light reproduction information wherein one light beam is intersected by at least two light beams and each intersection point emits light, the light beam control/driving means controls/drives the light beams such that the light emission period differs for each intersection point. Thus, a three-dimensional image is formed in a space. Furthermore, the light beam generation means oscillates at a high speed of 30 Hz or greater, for example, and the light reproduction information is shifted and set with respect to the intersection point map in accordance with the amount of oscillation. |
