The present invention relates to: a reception device that makes it possible to continuously receive a service in a mobile reception device while moving between a plurality of broadcast areas; a reception method; a transmission device; and a transmission method. The reception device acquires: LLS metadata including area information relating to a broadcast area that does not depend on a service identified by an IP address, said LLS metadata being transmitted in a digital broadcast in a lower hierarchical layer than the IP layer in the channel selection hierarchy of a protocol for an IP transmission method; and SCS metadata that is transmitted in a higher hierarchical layer than the IP layer and that includes service information relating to a service provided in an adjacent area that is adjacent to a currently selectable broadcast area. When moved to the adjacent area, the reception device remains connected to a selected service and selects a service to be received on the basis of at least the area information from among the area information and the service information. The present invention can be applied, for example, to a mobile reception device that is capable of receiving a digital broadcast signal.
