931,482. Mixing fluids in flow. KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. Sept. 22, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 34020/61. Class 86. [Also in Group XXIX] In an installation for the preparation of pulp, i.e. a suspension of fine solid particles in a liquid, suitable for differential flotation of ores &c., in which the density of pulp varies inversely with the rate at which pulp is withdrawn from each of two or more pulp thickeners 1, 2, each thickener discharges through a regulating valve 3, 4 to a density measuring device 7, 8, comprising a pair of dip tubes fed with compressed air, and thence through discharge pipes 13, 14, to a reservoir from which the mixture is withdrawn at a constant rate by a pump 16. Any variation in the density in one of the measuring devices 7, 8 causes a signal to be applied to a diaphragm 21 or 22 to cause, through a relay 25 or 26, adjustment of the corresponding valve 3 or 4 to vary the rate of flow in a sense to correct the variation. In addition, a dip tube 23 in the reservoir 15 transmits a signal to both diaphragms 21, 22 to maintain the total inflow to the reservoir at a rate corresponding to the rate of withdrawal. |
