A power conversion device (100) is provided with: a rectifier circuit (3) that converts AC power from a first AC power source (1) into DC power; a shorting unit (30) that shorts the AC power source (1) via a reactor (2) that is connected between the AC power source (1) and the rectifier circuit (3); a control unit (20) that generates a plurality of drive signals (Sa) for controlling the shorting unit (30) during a half cycle of the AC power source (1); and a smoothing capacitor (4). The control unit (20) incrementally varies a threshold value for limiting the value of the power source current of the AC power source (1) in an ON segment or an OFF segment of the plurality of drive signals (Sa).
