<p>There is provided a system for removing sulfur from flue gas produced at a hydrocarbon recovery facility, the system comprising a first waste stream source providing a first basic and alkaline waste stream; a flue gas source providing flue gas comprising SO2; and a reaction chamber in fluid communication with the first waste stream source and the flue gas source for combining the first basic and alkaline waste stream and the flue gas, the reaction chamber comprising a flue gas outlet for outputting flue gas comprising a reduced SO2 content and a discharge outlet for outputting waste comprising a sulfur-comprising solid. A further second or third basic and alkaline waste stream may be combined with the first basic and alkaline waste stream. The basic and alkaline waste stream may be blowdown, lime sludge, produced water, or a combination thereof.</p> |
