Base station and method of determining whether to set up a call

A method is provided of determining whether to set-up a call connection in response to a call request in a base station for wireless telecommunications having an interface to a telecommunications core network. The method comprises the following steps:
sending test data to the interface;
measuring the time required for the interface to transmit the test data so as to obtain information in respect of data rate that the interface can handle;
deciding whether or not to set up the call dependent upon said information; and dependent upon said decision setting-up the call or refusing call set-up.
