PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling a volume are provided to differentially amplify an output sound by a frequency band correspondingly to noise of a surrounding environment, thereby amplifying a signal of a partial frequency band. CONSTITUTION: A noise sensor(117) senses external noise. An amplification information storage unit(111) stores amplification information which differentiates an amplification ratio to the output sound, caused by the noise, by a frequency band. A controller(115) offers an amplification control signal differentiated by the frequency band based on the amplification ratio. A frequency separator(103) separates the output sound by the frequency band. A sound processor(109) differentiates and amplifies the output sound by the frequency band according to the amplification control signal.
