<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch detection method for a touch panel device. <P>SOLUTION: In the touch panel device including a first substrate including a first conductive layer having a plurality of rectangular conductive sheets provided in parallel to each other with a first end and a second end being connected to a control circuit, and a second substrate, the control circuit applies a driving voltage to the rectangular conductive sheet at the first end and connects the second end of the rectangular conductive sheet to a preset potential to thereby form a potential gradient in the rectangular conductive sheet. When the touch panel device is pressed down, the first conductive layer contacts with a second conductive layer to apply the driving voltage to the second conductive layer based on the touch position. The control circuit detects a first axial coordinate position of the touch position, and further applies the driving voltage to the first end of the rectangular conductive layer of the second conductive layer and connects the second end of the rectangular conductive sheet to a preset potential to thereby form a potential gradient. The driving voltage is applied to the first conductive layer by the second conductive layer based on the touch position, and the control circuit detects the first conductive layer.
