PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module in which a space for mounting an optical element, which is optically coupled to a waveguide core of an optical waveguide having an optical path conversion function using a reflection surface, can be formed in the optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The optical module 1A includes: an optical waveguide 4 having a waveguide core 40 where light propagates and a clad 41 confining the light in the waveguide core 40; and a circuit board 5 for mounting a planar optical element 2. The optical waveguide 4 has a reflection face 42 exposing an end face of the waveguide core 40, on an inclined face formed on one end face along a direction where the waveguide core 40 is extended, and an element mounting aperture 43 formed by opening the underclad 41a at a position opposing to the reflection face 42, opening into a size to accept the optical element 2. The optical waveguide 4 is mounted on the circuit board 5 by aligning the optical element 2 with the reflection face 42 of the optical waveguide 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
