<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide photovoltaic (PV) cell structures which improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A PV cell 10 includes an emitter layer 24, a base layer 26 adjacent to the emitter layer 24, and a back surface field (BSF) layer 28 adjacent to the base layer 26. The BSF layer 28 includes a first layer 30, and a second layer 32 adjacent to the first layer 30. The first layer 30 includes a first material, and the second layer 32 includes a second material different from the first material.
