PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling a hydraulic elevator capable of restraining reduction in the failure detecting function on a hydraulic apparatus, even in a hydraulic elevator for arranging a hydraulic cutoff valve in a hydraulic circuit. SOLUTION: The control device stays in standby for a predetermined time by opening a control opening-closing valve when confirming that a lowering starting condition of a car is achieved (Step S12, S13). The control device measures a moving distance of the car from a landing reference position when the predetermined time passes (Step S14), and confirms whether its measured moving distance is a predetermined value or less (Step S15). The control device determines that the hydraulic cutoff valve is abnormal when confirming that the moving distance of the car exceeds the predetermined value, and reports the fact to a remote monitoring center (Step S17), At the same time, the control device opens the control opening-closing valve (Step S18), and continues car operation as it is, and finishes this operation.
