The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases comprising extract of Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. Ex Franch or fraction thereof. The Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. Ex Franch or fraction thereof according to the present invention: does not show toxicity; produces NO, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 which are inflammatory mediators; inhibits oxygen free radicals; and significantly induces alleviation of airway hyperresponsiveness, inhibition of endobronchial inflammatory cell infilt-ration, and reduction of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in an ovoalbumin-induced asthma mouse model. Also, the Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. Ex Franch or fraction thereof of the present invention effectively inhibits secretion of immunoglobulin in blood serum, secretion of endobronchial mucus, and infiltration of inflammatory cells in lung, thereby being useful as a safe agent for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases including asthma, allergy, and inflammation.
