The lateral rigidity of a vehicle hood is increased without adversely affecting shock absorbing performance with respect to a colliding body. A curved reinforcing member (12) is disposed under an inner panel (16) with a predetermined gap created between the curved reinforcing member and a beam portion (20), and is integrally affixed to the inner panel (16) at both ends in a vehicle width direction. Thus, the lateral rigidity of the vehicle hood (10) is increased, allowing the thickness of an outer panel (14) or the inner panel (16) to be decreased to achieve a weight reduction. In the event of collision with a colliding body (36) with the vehicle hood (10), the reinforcing member (12) as well as the outer panel (14) and the inner panel (16) is pressed downward and thus flexurally deformed, while, due to opening portions of the beam portion (20) being pressed against the reinforcing member (12), an opening side of a hat cross-section is smoothly expanded and deformed along the reinforcing member (12). Such deformation properly absorbs the collision energy, thus providing excellent shock absorbing performance despite the presence of the reinforcing member (12). |
