This printer is characterized by containing the following: a print head; a platen roller that has an axle; a spring that pushes the print head towards the side where the platen roller is provided; a frame, a side surface of which has a platen-supporting groove that supports the axle of the platen roller; and a detection switch. Said printer is also characterized in that: the platen-supporting groove has a first edge on the side where the print head is seated and a second edge on the side opposite said first edge; a protrusion that protrudes into the platen-supporting groove is provided on said second edge; and when the axle of the platen roller is seated in a prescribed position that is deeper in the platen-supporting groove than the aforementioned protrusion, the print head biases the platen roller via the spring and the detection switch is pressed by the axle of the platen roller.
