[Class 29.] A refrigerator-car of the kind in which cooling is effected by the evaporation of water &c. on its outer walls is provided with outer permeable walls 1 and inner heat-conducting walls 2, the space between the walls being filled with water. The outer walls may be protected by fixed or adjustable louvres 4, and the space between the walls divided into cells to reduce loss of water in the event of the car being damaged. In a modification, the outer porous walls are formed of hollow slabs 5, Fig. 4, of stone, brick, &c. The space between the walls or the hollow slabs may be supplied with water from an outside tank 10, Fig. 5, or from a central tank disposed in the roof of the car.</p> |
