摘要 A method for manufacturing a perpendicular magnetic recording medium that includes a magnetic recording layer having the desired film thickness while maintaining high magnetic anisotropy and having more homogeneous magnetic characteristics. This method for manufacturing a perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes: a step wherein a nonmagnetic substrate is prepared; a step wherein magnetic recording layers are stacked on the nonmagnetic substrate; and a step wherein the nonmagnetic substrate on which the magnetic recording layers have been stacked is heated to a temperature of 400-600 °C. The step (B) wherein the magnetic recording layers are stacked includes at least a step wherein a first magnetic recording layer is formed and a step wherein a second magnetic recording layer is formed on the first magnetic recording layer. The first magnetic recording layer has a granular structure that includes first magnetic crystal grains formed of an ordered alloy, and a first nonmagnetic crystal grain boundary formed of carbon and enclosing the first magnetic crystal grains. The second magnetic recording layer has a granular structure that includes second magnetic crystal grains formed of an ordered alloy, and a second nonmagnetic crystal grain boundary formed of nonmagnetic material comprising boron and carbon and enclosing the second magnetic crystal grains.
