Provided are a tire-trimming device and method which make it possible to more efficiently and neatly remove unnecessary rubber components formed on the tire surface when vulcanizing the tire, without requiring a complicated control procedure. The present invention removes unnecessary rubber components (15, 16) while rotating the tire (12), by: detecting the profile of the tire outer surface and the position thereof by using a profile sensor (4) while rotating the tire (12); inputting the data detected by the profile sensor (4) into a control unit (11); when removing the unnecessary rubber components (15, 16), selecting a trimming tool (6) from among a plurality of different types of trimming tools (6) which is of the type set by the control unit (11) in advance for use in the location on which the unnecessary rubber components (15, 16) are formed; moving the selected trimming tool (6) and the tire (12) relative to one another on the basis of the data detected by the profile sensor (4); and positioning the tip end section of the trimming tool (6) along the profile of the detected tire outer surface.
