APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MOLDING PLATE GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a thickness difference between an ear portion and a central portion as much as possible when a plate glass is molded by an overflow downdraw method.SOLUTION: An apparatus 1 for molding plate glasses molds the plate glass by downward passing a molten glass G overflowed on both sides from a groove 21 formed in the top part of a molding 2, along an inclined surface 23 forming wedge parts of the molding 2 while controlling width-directional breadth by a pair of inclined surface guides 32 to integrally fuse the molten glass at the lower end part of the molding 2. Each inclined surface guide 32 has a rising guide surface 32a, the height of which from the inclined surface 23 gradually increases towards the width-directional outside. The outer end 32aa of the rising guide surface 32a in the width direction is gradually opened outward in the width direction as it moves towards the flow-down destination of the molten glass G.
