The coupling has coupling pieces (2), each provided at a respective end (3) of pipes (1) or hoses to be connected, and each end having an end diameter. A cuff (5) includes two shear elements (6) for coupling a respective pair of coupling pieces. The pair of coupling pieces engages over the cuff as respective extensions of the respective ends, where each extension has a diameter nearly identical to the end diameter. The pair of coupling pieces and associated cuff are arranged symmetrically with regard to a connecting plane (E).
