PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove components of show-through effect without deteriorating image quality, and without being affected by an image property of edge structure. SOLUTION: In this image processing method, first, a color histogram is calculated with respect to an input image concerning a predetermined image region including a target pixel. A partial color space of predetermined size comprising the pixel value of the target pixel is determined. The color values of frequency peak positions of the color histogram are specified. The color values of frequency peak positions existing in the partial color space are specified on the basis of peak frequency values or the like, and at least one out of them is selected as a color value candidate. The true color value of the target pixel is determined by using at least either the color value or frequency value of the color value candidate.
