PURPOSE:To prevent the contact of a vise with a grindstone even when the grindstone having a large diameter is used, by making the length of a material before grinding larger than a length necessary as a product and cutting the holding side end part of the material over the extended length after grinding. CONSTITUTION:The length L of a straight rod like material 11 having a round cross-section is extended by a length l2 as compared with a length l1 actually necessary as a product. When a large number of the materials are simultaneous ly ground to form a blade part 12a of each of the materials 11, the materials 11 are arranged in a parallel state to hold one end parts thereof by a vise 13 and the outer peripheries of the other end parts thereof are pressed to the outer periphery of a grindstone 14 by the pressing surface 15a of a metal presser 15 to perform grinding. After the blade 12a is ground, twist processing is applied to the blade part 12a and, thereafter, the end part of each of the materials 11 on the holding side is cut off by the excessive length l2 to form a material 12.
