PURPOSE: A method of preventing the evaporator of an air conditioner is provided to prevent the freezing of an evaporator without a temperature sensor for the evaporator since whether to operate a compressor is determined using an indoor temperature sensor and an outdoor temperature sensor, which are installed on the indoor unit and the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. CONSTITUTION: An indoor temperature is measured through an indoor temperature sensor and an outdoor temperature is measured through an outdoor temperature sensor(S1). The measured indoor temperature and the measured outdoor temperature are compared with each predetermined temperature range(S2). If they are within the ranges, the operation of the compressor stops(S3). If at least one of them is not within the ranges, the compressor continues to operate and the indoor temperature and the outdoor temperature are measured again. The predetermined range of the indoor temperature is between 18°C and 22°C. The predetermined range of the outdoor temperature is between 18°C and 22°C.
