<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VA (vertically aligned) liquid crystal display device having a high front contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The VA (vertically aligned) liquid crystal display device includes: a front-side polarizer (14); a rear-side polarizer (12); and a VA liquid crystal cell (LC) disposed between the front-side polarizer and the rear-side polarizer. The VA liquid crystal cell includes a front-side substrate (24), a rear-side substrate (22) and a liquid crystal layer (10) disposed between them. The member contrast (CR<SB>f</SB>) of the front-side substrate to the member contrast (CR<SB>r</SB>) of the rear-side substrate (22) satisfies the following expression: 3≤CR<SB>f</SB>/CR<SB>r</SB>(wherein the rear-side substrate and the front-side substrate include component members of the VA liquid crystal cell formed on the respective substrates), and the rear-side polarizer (12) is directly stuck to the VA liquid crystal cell (LC). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
