Disclosed is the use of a tiotropium salt of formula 1 where X- is a signally charged anion for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of patients suffering from asthma in the severity GINA step 3. Where X is, for example, chloride, bromide, iodide, sulphate, phosphate, methane sulphonate, nitrate, maleate, acetate, citrate, fumarate, tartrate, oxalate, succinate, benzoate and p-toluenesulphonate. Tiotropium is also known by the IUPAC name (1 alpha, 2 beta, 4 beta, 7 beta)-7-[(hydroxidi-2-thienylacetyl)oxy]-9,9-dimethyl-3-oxa-9-azoniatricyclo[3.3.1.0]nonane.
