A display system and related television apparatus for displaying an operational state of a user input device are provided. The display system includes: a remote control unit having a gyro sensor configured to sense a movement of the remote control unit and to transmit motion information based on the sensed movement; and a television apparatus having a display configured to display an image thereon of a broadcasting channel based on processing of a broadcasting signal transmitted from a broadcasting channel source, and a controller configured to operate in a pointing mode by controlling the display to display thereon a pointing cursor moved in correspondence with the motion information received from the remote control unit, the controller further configured to change the displayed cursor to an icon showing an operational state. Thus, a user may intuitively recognize the operational state of their input obtain prompt feedback on the input result without suspending their interaction.
