摘要 A device and method for deploying self-cinching surgical clips. The device accesses at least two layers of tissue or material from only one side of the tissue or material and punctures through the two layers of tissue or material. The various configurations of clips disclosed herein are made of a superelastic material such as Nitinol, and have a constrained and a relaxed state, and no sharp edges or tips so as to reduce tissue irritation following deployment. The clip is disposed within the housing of the delivery device and held in a constrained state by a tube assembly until deployment wherein the clip assumes its relaxed state, where the ends of the clip are brought into close approximation, thereby securing the layers of tissue or material together.

A surgical clip deploying system, comprising: a delivery device having a housing, a pusher assembly having a pusher shaft, and a clip holding tube having a sharpened end configured to puncture at least one of biological tissue and synthetic materials, the pusher shaft being sized to fit within the clip holding tube; and a self-cinching clip made of a super-elastic material having a relaxed configuration and a constrained configuration and disposed within the clip holding tube in its constrained configuration; wherein the clip holding tube is movable in the housing relative to the pusher assembly such that the pusher shaft can contact and push the self-cinching clip free of a distal end of the clip holding tube and permit the self-cinching clip to revert to its relaxed configuration.
