In a wrapping machine of the kind in which an article to be wrapped is formed into a pocket, carrying a wrapper with it, the wrapper thus being folded over the front, top and only part of the base of the article, the pocket is associated with grippers into which the upper free end of the wrapper is introduced by a vertically reciprocating folder, the grippers holding the end until it is wiped into overlapping relation with the other end on the base of the article. Articles 11 are fed by a conveyer 13 to lie opposite a plunger 16, the latter forcing each in turn in to a pocket, the upper side 18 of which is held in a receiving position by an abutment 48. A wrapper, previously fed in front of the article, is carried into the pocket with it, members 56 forming tucks. The end 55 of the wrapper is folded on to the rear of the article by a blade 51 which also places it under the jaws of grippers 33. The pocket descends to a position opposite a folding channel 57 and a plunger 28, previously forced out of the pocket by entry of an article, is returned by a tappet member 39 to force the article and wrapper into the folding channel. The gripper 33 simultaneously releases the end 55 which is folded into overlapping relationship with the other wrapper end. |
