A mobile terminal and a control method thereof are disclosed. The method for controlling a mobile terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: activating a memo mode while a first application is executed; receiving a first touch input of a specific pattern in the memo mode; displaying the trajectory of the specific pattern and first GUIs corresponding to at least two recommended words respectively corresponding to the specific pattern in a display unit; receiving a second touch input selecting one of the displayed first GUIs; and having a recommended word corresponding to the selected first GUI close to the trajectory of the specific pattern and then displaying the recommended word.
