Provided is a device for processing an image for detecting pedestrians. The device for processing an image comprises: a traffic line extraction module for extracting coordinates of traffic lines from an input image; and a pedestrian detection module for selecting an area between a first line passing the ends of first left and right traffic lines and a second line passing the ends of second left and right traffic lines as an area of interest for pedestrians using the coordinates of the traffic lines, and detecting a pedestrian area having pedestrian characteristics by searching the area of interest for pedestrians using a preset window.
