Infusion pump with tube measurement technique using linear actuator and pressure sensor

Disclosed is a method of measuring tube thickness using a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor is located in a loading portion into which the tube is loaded. The force imparted by the tube on the pressure sensor is recorded and compared to a plurality of predetermined force values each corresponding to a particular tube thickness. From this comparison, the tube thickness is determined. In other embodiments, the infusion pump can also compress a tube using a movable member of the pump and record the distance travelled by the movable member to compress fully the tube. Using this distance, the tubing wall thickness can be determined.
