In the present invention, a zoom lens comprises the following in order from the object side: a first lens group (G1) having negative refractive power; a second lens group (G2) having positive refractive power; and a third lens group (G3) having negative refractive power. When zooming, the first lens group (G1) includes, at least, movement to the image side, the second lens group (G2) moves integrally with an aperture stop (S), and the third lens group (G3) moves to the object side. The movement of the first lens group (G1) to the image side is movement that occurs when zooming starts from the wide angle end. The movement of the third lens group (G3) to the object side is movement that occurs when zooming from the wide angle end to the telescopic end. The first lens group (G1) includes at least a negative lens and a positive lens, the negative lens being disposed on the side that is closest to the object side, and satisfies the following conditional equation: 0.75<(&bgr;2t/&bgr;2w)/(&bgr;3t/&bgr;3w)<1.38 -0.70<&bgr;2w<-0.32 0.96<f2/fw<1.80 |
