PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a body airbag used for reducing a vehicle collision damage.SOLUTION: Upon an asymmetric frontal collision of an automobile 12, an airbag ECU 58 operates a body airbag device 16 on a collision side, of a pair of left and right body airbag devices 16. Upon the event, a body airbag 52 on the collision side, the airbag being disposed between a suspension tower 34 on the collision side and a dash panel 46 is expanded by pressure of a gas from an inflator. The body airbag 52 is capable of filling a space between the suspension tower 34 on the collision side and the dash panel 46, absorbing collision energy transmitted via the suspension tower 34 on the collision side with the deformation of the body airbag 52. Furthermore, the left and right body airbags 52 can be smaller because they are just to fill the space between the left and right suspension towers 34 and the dash panel 46. |
