摘要 An apparatus for controlling flow in a fluid flow path can include a chamber containing an expandable material, the expandable material being configured to expand out of the chamber into a portion of the fluid flow path so as to at least partially block the fluid flow path. The apparatus also can include at least one structure providing flow communication between the chamber and the fluid flow path. The at least one structure can be configured to pass the expandable material from the chamber to the portion of the fluid flow path during expansion so as to control a rate at which the expandable material expands into the portion of the fluid flow path.

An apparatus for controlling flow in a fluid flow path, the apparatus comprising: a fluid flow path configured to transport a liquid through the apparatus; a chamber comprising a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and a permeable material configured to expand upon contact with the liquid out of the chamber and be extruded into a portion of the fluid flow path wherein, in an expanded state, the material selectively allows a gas to pass therethrough while preventing a liquid to pass therethrough; a plurality of flow channels configured to draw at least a portion of the liquid into the chamber and into contact with the material via the first side of the chamber; and at least one structure comprising a plurality of passages, wherein the structure is proximate the second side of the chamber and is configured to control the rate at which the material expands from the chamber into the portion of the fluid flow path.
