The present invention provides a connection detecting apparatus for detecting an unauthorized device with respect to a vehicle network, and an in-vehicle relay apparatus. A gateway (2), to which communication lines (4a to 4c) are connected, detects an unauthorized connection of a communication device (99) to the communication lines (4a to 4c). The gateway (2) samples signal waves a plurality of times from the communication lines (4a to 4c) and generates an eye pattern in which a plurality of waveforms overlap. Also, the gateway (2) stores a mask generated on the basis of an eye pattern in a normal time. The gateway (2) compares the generated eye pattern and the stored mask, when a portion in which the eye pattern and the mask overlap exists, the gateway (2) recognizes the portion as an abnormal waveform, thereby detecting connection of the unauthorized communication device (99) to the communication lines (4a to 4c). |
