PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rapid bioremediation method for cleansing soil or underground water polluted with volatile organochlorine compounds. ! SOLUTION: Polluted soil or polluted underground water is cleansed by using a consortium of microorganisms belonging to the genus Acinetobacter and the genus Delftia, where the microorganism belonging to the genus Acinetobacter may be Acinetobacter venetianus and the microorganism belonging to the genus Delftia may be Delftia acidovorans, both can degrade volatile organochlorine compounds in a salt-containing environment. By using the consortium of these microorganisms, soil or underground water polluted with volatile organic chlorine compounds can be cleansed in an environment containing 0-5% (w/v) of NaCl. !
