Provided is a wheel bearing device, which not only prevents the occurrence of press-fitting scratches of the external member during cap press-fitting but also prevents damage of an elastic member bonded to the cap and for which reliability has been improved by increasing the air-tightness of the fitting section. The cap (14) is formed from a nonmagnetic steel plate by press working and is provided with a fitting section (14a), which is press-fitted into the external member (2), and a disc section (14c), which extends radially inward therefrom and faces a magnetic encoder (13) across a gap in the axial direction. A rotation speed sensor (22) abuts or approaches said disc section (14c) and is disposed opposite the magnetic encoder (13). Additionally, the inside circumference of the end of the external member (2) is configured from an inside fitting surface (16) into which the cap (14) is press-fitted and a large diameter flank (18) extending therefrom toward the inner side via a stepped section (17). On the outside circumference of the end of the fitting section (14a), an elastic member (15) obtained from a synthetic rubber is integrally bonded by vulcanized adhesion and said elastic member (15) is elastically deformed by the flank (18) and pressed and fixed thereto. |
