A regional data center system corresponding to a particular region of the world. The data center system includes multiple data centers, each configured such that region-specific requests for services may be satisfied by any of the data centers. One or more of the data centers may also perform load balancing on received region-specific request. In order to perform load balancing, the receiving data center may itself process the requests, but in some cases may determine that the request is to be processed by another data center within the regional data center system.

a plurality of data centers configured such that region-specific requests for services corresponding to a particular region may be satisfied by any of the plurality of data centers, the plurality of data centers including at least a first, second and third data center; wherein the first data center is configured to perform load balancing on a plurality of region-specific requests corresponding to the particular region and received by the first data center by performing at least the following:
for at least some of the region-specific requests received by the first data center, an act of the first data center determining that the region-specific requests are to be processed by the second data center.
